A winter escape with our Creative Director Samantha Stevenson-Baker to the Dandenong Ranges

After our latest lockdown, a small break into the country was exactly what was needed. Only an hour out of Melbourne the Dandenong Ranges is the perfect escape for its amazing scenery, gorgeous towns and delicious food.

Larnook is a self contained cabin constructed from two shipping containers but with all the amenities you need for a chic escape, set against an abandoned dairy. Cosy and warm, with all the essentials such as a gas fire to keep inside warm, a fire pit to keep warm outside and an outdoor shower for the brave. It is the perfect place to cook a meal, play a board game and take in your surroundings.

Sleeping up to two guests, it's the perfect retreat. We loved the tactile finishes of cork paired with natural tones and light green to reflect the landscape. Attention to the smallest details make this getaway elegant and refined while blending into the natural surroundings. The highlight was the king size bed encased in luxury linens and with a full window view to the 180 degrees of countryside surrounding it. Perfect for a hot chocolate and breakfast in bed.

We explored the local area and loved The Patch Store for coffee and breakfast @thepatchstore (send a postcard to a loved one at the adjoining post office) and the Kallista Deli & Cafe. We recommend you try your luck getting into High Tea at Miss Marples Tea Room in Sassafrass too and The Independant for a lovely dinner in Gembrook.

You are also a short drive to the Yarra Valley if you want to explore for the day. Our pick for lunch is at Meletos.
